Mosquito Control

Mosquito breeding areas and their larvae are aquatic, so remember to attack wet areas when applying insecticides. You can discourage breeding by draining any containers that collect water.

Controlling mosquitoes can be done in several. Choose insecticides for large areas, foggers for a quick kill, repellents for the skin and citronella products for specific areas -- these are the most effective controls available to the consumer today.

Insect Controls Malathion and liquid Sevin are both good choices for controlling mosquitoes in large outdoor areas. Apply products around home foundation, in low areas, wood piles, on plants and in other places where the moisture-loving mosquitoes breed.

Foggers Can be used to protect patios and backyards, and are an excellent choice when planning picnics or other outdoor get-togethers. They offer quick but temporary control.

Repellents Our skin emits carbon dioxide, moisture, warmth and lactic acid. When applied to the skin, repellents mask these scents that attract mosquitoes.

Small-Area Controls Citronella candles, oils and torches contain an oil extracted from lemon grass, which when burned, deter mosquitoes. They are effective as long as they remain lit.
