Short to Middle Irons

With short to mid irons your primary goal is accuracy. The built-in loft of the shorter irons makes these clubs easier to use for the average golfer. Since accuracy here is more important than distance, don't try to hit the ball with a great deal of force. An easy, smooth swing following swing basics will deliver accuracy and consistency.

Set up slightly open to the target, clubface square to the pin.
Play the ball more to the center or your stance.
Swing more 'upright', with shorter irons.
Hit down on the ball to impart greater backspin.
