4 – Step Lawn Care Program

There are a variety of 4-step or seasonal lawn care treatment programs on the market – Scotts, Franks, Vigoro, along with a few others. A 4 – Step program can offer all of the nutrients your lawn needs throughout the growing season.

It's easy to apply and easy to remember. Each application is made on or near the four major warm-weather holidays; Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. Of course, all of the steps listed below are approximate. Specific timing depends on your area and the current weather conditions. Check with your local nursery or product supplier for recommended application times.

Step 1 – Pre-Emergence Plus Fertilizer: April/March Application

A good rule of thumb is to apply this product early to mid April, or when the Forsythia are in bloom. A crabgrass preventer / fertilizer stops growth of ugly crabgrass and gives your lawn a boost of nitrogen.

Step 2 – Weed Control / Fertilizer: May/June Application

Slow release nitrogen provides a steady food supply for long lasting greening and the weed control, fights dandelions and a variety of other actively growing weeds.

Step 3 – Insect Control / Fertilizer June/August Application

Slow release iron and sulfur to give your lawn extra greening power and provide it with needed nourishment to help it through the hottest part of the summer while controlling pesky insects that can damage your lawn.

Step 4 - Fall Fertilizer – Early Fall Application

An application designed for a fall fertilizer will green your lawn now plus allow it to store food that will be used for growth early next spring, allowing a faster green-up. A high potassium content strengthens the lawn helping it withstand the winter.
