Lob Shots
One of the most fun shots in golf is the
lob shot. Everyone likes to see the ball
go up high and land softly on the green.
We've all seen Phil Mickelson hit these
incredible shots around the green and
wished we could do the same. Unfortunately,
it is a very difficult and risky shot, but
can be learned with some practice.
Here are some tips on hitting lob shots:
1) Use a lob wedge or open a sandwedge
2) Play the ball forward in your stance,
where you would hit your driver.
3) Have your hands even with the clubhead
so the shaft has little to no lean.
4) Open your stance and have your weight
favoring your left foot, about 60 percent.
5) Play this like a bunker shot, trying to
slide the club underneath the ball.
6) Make sure that you have a good lie. You
cannot hit a lob shot from tight or thin lies.
7) Soften your grip pressure so the club head
feels heavy.
8) Hinge your wrists early in the backswing to
get the club head up quickly and make sure your
hands stay in front of the club coming down. You
want to have a flat left wrist at impact. Do not
try to lift or scoop the ball. This will cause
you to skull or hit the shot fat.
