GARLIC ON THE 'SILL

If you're looking for a little indoor gardening project to get you through until spring--and if you'd like to add a bit of punch to some of the dishes you cook - consider growing garlic greens. The basic procedure goes like this:  Fill a small pot (one that's a little wider than a bulb of garlic) with potting soil.  Moisten the soil thoroughly and push several garlic cloves down into it, covering them completely.  Place the pot in a sunny windowsill.  Keep the soil moist, but don't
let it get really wet.   Before long, you should see green shoots coming up in the pot. As soon as they're a couple of inches tall, you can trim them for kitchen use - such as in soups, stews, and stirfries. Just make sure you leave at least a half-inch or so of the shoots when you trim them.
